The Biological Filter
The Biofilter is designed to promote the interaction of odour bearing gases with active bacteria in a controlled environment without the use of chemicals. The natural process is one where odour passes through a bed of specially prepared fibrous material. The bed is contained in a concrete, FRP or stainless steel housing. The condition and temperature, and humidity of the gases are important to the efficient operation of the Biofilter. Gases first pass through a Griffin designed modular scrubber. This scrubber adiabatically cools the gas and removes the particulate from the gas stream. At this stage water-soluble odour bearing VOC's will react with the scrubbing liquor and some odour reduction will be achieved. The scrubber's prime function is to create the inlet conditions to allow a healthy colony of bacteria to be present in the biofilter.
