TQM
- Total Quality Management is a practice being applied to many products and services,
and increasingly applied to the tobacco industry.
With this in mind, Griffin
has developed a product testing system for use in a QC environment to determine
the quality of stem from the threshing line and for indicating thresher efficiencies
in just minutes - in time to make immediate, profit-saving adjustments to maintain
stern content specifications. The Griffin Quality Control Stem Tester does the
job at the push of a button, safeguards against human errors of judgement and
keeps labor costs to a minimum. 80% of the test sample is kept in the profitable
6mm (.23") size or over - with several 3kg (6.6 lb) test runs per hour this
feature can really save money.
Method of Operation
The sample is spread on
the conveyor and the starter button depressed. The conveyor automatically feeds
the thresher at a closely uniform rate.
The thresher basket size
and rotor speed combine to reduce the average size of the sample with the minimum
quantity of fines. The threshed sample is pneumatically conveyed to the to the
separator and is discharged into the separator tower where the lamina is removed
from the threshed material and conveyed to a second tangential separator which
discharges this lamina to a container. The heavies from the separator are returned
via the vibrating conveyor to the thresher for re-threshing. This cycle of operation
continues until completion of test, usually 4 to 5 minutes, when the timer automatically
opens the gate and discharges stems into container.
